Among the wines from Veneto awarded with Tre Bicchieri in the Vini d'Italia guide, there are also two Lessini Durello sparkling wines. Here they are

The native white grape variety, Durella, historically linked to the hilly area of the Monti Lessini between Verona and Vicenza, has ancient origins. Its name derives from the Latin “Durus Acinus,” precisely due to the thickness of its skin. Its rediscovery began in the 1960s, but until the 1980s, it was mainly used to blend still wines or as a base for sparkling wines. Only in recent decades has its value been recognised, thanks to meticulous single-varietal winemaking and an interesting production of sparkling wines. Today, the production of Durello wine falls under the Monti Lessini DOC, with the types of still, lively, sparkling, and passito.

Its aromatic profile is elegant, characterised by delicate floral and citrusy aromas. On the palate, it stands out for its sharp citric acidity, accompanied by mineral notes and a pleasantly savoury finish.

Here are the two Lessini Durello sparkling wines that we awarded in the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia Guide 2024
