On the eve of Amarone Opera Prima, the "Vignaioli Valle di Mezzane" group is born: 13 wineries aiming for the recognition of subzones within the Doc Valpolicella. A longstanding battle that, with the new association, intends to urge the Valpolicella Wines Consortium in the project to define various areas (including Valle di Mezzane) reflecting the morphology of the territory, different climates, and soils.
The participating wineries
The stated objective is, in fact, to create a network to deepen the knowledge of their territory and enhance the production of the entire appellation. The group includes Benini Alessandro, Marinella Camerani, Falezze di Luca Anselmi, Grotta del Ninfeo, I Tamasotti, Il Monte Caro, ILatium Morini, Le Guaite di Noemi, Talestri, Massimago, Carlo Alberto Negri, Roccolo Grassi, and Giovanni Ruffo. These are companies with different origins, ambitions, and approaches to vineyard management—organic, biodynamic, and integrated—but they share the same perspective that unites them in a single large entity.
The zoning project
The starting point for this project is a Soil Map to be created by Giuseppe Benciolini, a soil scientist who has authored various vineyard zoning projects, including Soave, Valpolicella, Prosecco, Cartizze, and Lambrusco Reggiano. The study of the Valle di Mezzane area aims to highlight morphological differences and define vineyard management to better interpret the viticultural vocation, safeguard the territory, and effectively address climate change.
