In Piedmont, we have discovered 6 delicious Gavi wines that cost less than 20 euros

Among the Piedmont wines that we have awarded in the Berebene 2024 guide for their excellent quality-price ratio, there are also some Gavi wines. Here's what they are.

It's not at all uncommon that we often step (and nose and mouth) into Piedmont with this column. It's not because, as we often repeat, going beyond the region's big wine flags, such as Barolo and Barbaresco, it's possible to find areas capable of offering wines of excellent quality at more than friendly prices. Wines from every corner of the region can satisfy discerning palates but also the simple, curious enthusiast. This is the case with Gavi.

We find ourselves in the province of Alessandria, in Alto Monferrato, on a strip of hills that runs between Colli Tortonesi and Ovadese and that to the south marks the border with Liguria. The denomination (DOCG in 1998, DOC in 1974) takes its name from the small town of Gavi, but the entire territory protected by the DOCG covers 11 municipalities. The cortese grape, a native Piedmontese variety, is responsible for this white wine, the only one allowed in the designation. It is a rather versatile grape that produces, of course, still white wines but also excellent results in simple and fragrant sparkling wines, in Reserva versions, where the grape's acidic backbone can support the passage of time with its structure, and finally in Spumante versions, both in Martinotti and Classic Method.

The Gavi wines with the best quality-price ratio for the Berebene 2024 guide

As usual, the following is a list of the best Gavi labels tasted this year, wines under 20 euros that have been reviewed in the Gambero Rosso Berebene 2024 guide with a score exceeding 90.
