Berebene 2024, the 10 Vermentino wines with the best value for money awarded by Gambero Rosso

Dec 24 2023, 13:03
Among the wines we honoured in the Berebene 2024 guide for excellent value for money, there are also some Vermentino wines. Here they are

There are some grape varieties that have travelled through space and time more than others: vermentino is one of them. Some say it is a Spanish grape, which then spread to the southern coasts of France, to Corsica and, of course, to Liguria and Sardinia; others locate its cradle in Anatolia and have it arrive in the western Mediterranean with the trades of Greek navigators; still others believe it is an indigenous Italian grape that then spread to the rest of the “Mare Nostrum”. Whatever the truth may be, it is plain for all to see that the vine is experiencing great commercial success. Currently in Italy, the main areas where it is cultivated are the aforementioned Liguria, from Levante to Ponente, Sardinia, throughout the island but with a particular emphasis on Gallura, and Tuscany, especially on the Bolgheri coast and in Maremma. The wines, despite the territorial differences, are all linked by a common thread: intense aromas of aromatic herbs, fruity juiciness, salty puffs, a certain Mediterranean stamp.
