As we have already emphasised, Tuscany once again proves to be the most awarded region in the Guide this year, with a total of 89 Tre Bicchieri awards. These results are thoroughly justified due to the vastness of the territory and its denominations, the variety of styles, and the diversity of terroirs. There's a dynamism, a desire to grow and deepen the connection with the land that never ceases.
Here, we focus on the Montepulciano area, particularly on its Vino Nobile, which offers wines with an increasingly distinctive and autonomous personality compared to its prominent neighbours such as Montalcino, Bolgheri, or Cortona.
The Nobile di Montepulciano, produced in the eponymous town near Siena with at least 70% Sangiovese grapes, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, boasts two significant distinctions: it was the first Italian wine to obtain the D.O.C.G. (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) status in 1980 and the first Italian denomination to achieve the "Equalitas" sustainability certification as early as 2022.
