Oct 24 2023, 16:00
Granita and brioche is the winning combo here, but in the bars of Catania you can also find croissants, fried Iris pastries, and many typical pastries for a fine breakfast, And for those who prefer starting the day with something savoury, a nice arancino or a rustico

Almond alone for purists, combined with pistachio for those with a sweet tooth, coffee with whipped cream for those who can't give up caffeine in the morning: whatever the choice, granita is the best option for the Sicilian breakfast, to be enjoyed together with the typical brioche col tuppo bun. But the coffee bar offer does not end here: here are the best places for a good breakfast in Catania.

The best bars in Catania for breakfast

Caffè Europa

Under the arcades of the last stretch of Corso Italia is a refined café suitable for a tasteful break. In the morning, you can start with a good coffee or an excellent cappuccino to go with typical city delicacies. Here, then, are the irises (primarily pistachio) fried to perfection, shortbread panzerotti, ricotta ravioli, croissants and treccine. Inevitable are the brioches, warm and fragrant, either with “tuppo” bun or simple with sprinkles, perfect with the excellent granitas (pistachio and chocolate with cream is the recommended one).

In the assortment of traditional pastries, the cannoli stands out, with its crispy rind and well-processed ricotta; also worth trying is the chocolate and pistachio granita with whipped cream, together with well-leavened brioche.

Good (Sicilian) coffee and creamy cappuccinos, perfect with croissants, ricotta-filled handkerchiefs, and strawberry baskets, when you don't prefer the ritual of brioche and granita at breakfast.
