In Rome opens Becco, a new kiosk with sandwiches, shokupan, and fermented foods

Among the pioneers of quality offerings for Roman kiosks, the creators of Fischio have opened a new takeaway spot with a sleek and tasty proposal

At Piazzale degli Eroi, Fischio has managed to encapsulate a wide range of offerings in a few square meters: a Roman kiosk like many others, but one that hides a beautiful selection of natural wines, specialty coffee, cocktails, and craft beers. Right across the street, the same family has now opened Becco, without outdoor space but with a truly tasty takeaway offering, including sandwiches, shokupan, and brioche.

Becco, Rome's new kiosk

"We had this format in mind for a long time," says Simone, one of the creators of Fischio and Becco along with Marco and Luigi, "then fortunately, we were so busy that we had to postpone everything, but now we're here." In the meantime, the three friends also created Soffio, a kiosk on the beach in Fregene. "The name was chosen to give continuity to this line... Becco worked well with both," Simone jokes. The proposal is essential, straightforward: Tibò, the Prati bakery, provides the brioche, while the shokupan, the Japanese milk loaf, is from Gigliola di Lucca, a gastronomy and bakery run by the chefs of Giglio.

Sandwiches, fermented foods, and sour beers

It opened its doors on April 22, 2024, and the lunch sandwiches sold out immediately. The opening hours are from 12 to 4 pm and from 6 to 11 pm, with Sundays being a day of rest. For drinks, they offer kombucha, ciders, sour beers, and some non-alcoholic options, "we thought of beverages that could pair well with the sandwiches." No natural wines, but for those, there's always Fischio, "which will have a separate series of dedicated sandwiches."

There are no seating places at Becco, but in the hidden lower space is Fischio's cellar, "where one day we would like to organize tastings." Two projects that share a common soul but with different offerings, "then if someone wants to grab a sandwich and eat it at Fischio with a bottle, they can do it. We would like the two kiosks to converse with each other without overshadowing each other."
