Marqués de Riscal is the Best Winery in the World. No Italian Wineries in the Top Ten

Spain takes the crown in the 2024 edition of World's Best Vineyards, which recognises wineries around the world that offer the best all-around wine tourism experiences and promote wine culture. This isn’t the first time Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal (pictured), an impressive winery in the Rioja region, has reached the top ranks of the list. This year, it has helped Spain secure an impressive three spots within the top ten. In second place is Vik, a Chilean winery with a futuristic design and a striking titanium roof that mirrors the surrounding landscape. In third place is South Africa's Creation Wines, celebrated for its wine and food pairing expertise and educational offerings on wine culture. The remaining positions from fourth to tenth are held by Bodegas Ysios (Spain), which climbed an impressive 67 places from the 2023 list; Fürst Von Metternich-Winneburg’sche Domäne Schloss Johannisberg (Germany); Maison Ruinart (France); Château Smith Haut Lafitte (France); Abadía Retuerta (Spain); Weingut Dr. Loosen (Germany); and Finca Victoria - Durigutti Family Winemakers (Argentina).

The italian wineries in the ranking

Italy has four wineries in the top 25. The highest-ranked Italian winery is Tenuta Cavalier Pepe, located in Sant'Angelo all'Esca in the province of Avellino. Further down the World's Best Vineyards list, we find Piedmont's Ceretto (20th) and Tuscany's Castello Banfi (22nd). The highest-ranking new Italian entry is Tenuta Castelbuono, part of the Lunelli group, in Bevagna (Perugia), renowned for its "carapace" designed by Arnaldo Pomodoro. In total, Spain has eight wineries in the top 50, while France and Germany each boast two entries in the top ten, with France placing eight wineries in the top 50, half of which are from the Champagne region.
