Optimism in the sparkling wine district. Just a few days before the harvest begins, the Consortium speaks of a good balance between acidity and sugars, but above all of aromatic values already at promising levels

Franco Adami is making a bold statement: the 2025 vintage could be one of the most important of the last three decades. It is not common for a Consortium president to take such a clear position but, evidently, for Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg, the current harvest promises to be exceptional in terms of quality. The credit goes to a favourable climate, especially during the hottest periods: «As things stand, the harvest is shaping up to be one of the three or four best of the last 30 years

Perfect grapes and optimal prospects

«As of today, the condition of the grapes is excellent – explains Diego Tomasi, director of the Consortium – and the past year recorded 30% less rainfall compared to the previous year, with an overall decrease in rainy events, yet maintaining the same heat load as 2024, albeit with a greater number of clear days.» From a technical standpoint, the Consortium speaks of a good balance between acidity and sugars, but above all of «aromatic values already at good levels, as confirmed by appropriate chemical analyses.» The health of the grapes is perfect and, therefore, producers are confident in a «harvest of great quality. We will begin – Tomasi stresses – by prioritising health, acidity and the ripening of the skin rather than the quantity of sugars present.»

The adaptability of the glera grape

Over the course of the season, the vines have shown clear signs of adapting to the new climatic conditions, overcoming the two very hot periods at the end of June and around mid-August, as well as some other moments of water scarcity. «All of this – according to the Consortium, which is based in Solighetto, Pieve di Soligo, and brings together 212 sparkling wine houses, 427 winemakers and 3,262 families of vine-growers – once again demonstrates, on the one hand, the viticultural vocation of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene hills, and on the other, the perfect adaptation of the glera grape variety.» Furthermore, the diversification in grape composition, already present today thanks to varying slopes, altitudes and exposures, will make it possible to obtain in the wines «a wide range of aromatic characteristics of the different grapes, from Riva to Riva.»
