Piedmont is going full throttle. In the Italian region with the highest density of Due Forchette, one of the Italian breadbaskets with the highest concentration of excellence, this year there are three of the seven new best restaurants in Italy for the Gambero Rosso Ristoranti d'Italia 2024 guide, recognition bestowed to two emblems of great Italian dining in the Langa and one of those very few places in Italy where history can really be felt elevating the experience of rare charm.
Of the remaining four, there is the triumphant return of Norbert Niederkofler - formerly at the St. Hubertus in San Cassiano - in Alto Adige and three “first-timers” in their respective territories: the talented Matteo Metullio in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia capital, Giuseppe Iannotti - also awarded as Restaurateur of the Year - who has turned the remote Telese Terme in the Beneventano area into a destination where gourmets arrive from all over the world and, last but not least, the “lord” of Apulian dining Antonello Magistà, who, a quarter of a century after the birth of Pashà, brings his region to the top of Italy for the first time.
These include names that have made history and that continue to grow in terms of research and hospitality, avant-garde kitchen in historic settings, and even a location change of excellence.
