Donnas is a small village in the lower Val d'Aosta, known mainly for its wine, which has been a DOC since 1971. Hence the Caves de Donnas cooperative was established, equipped with the most modern winemaking systems and oak barrels for ageing. In addition to the many wines produced, worthy of note is the feisty Caves de Donnas grappa, a true mountain spirit, made almost entirely from nebbiolo marc, with lingering notes of violets and a strong, persuasive flavour.
