Despite its reputation as an industrial region, Lombardy offers top-quality agricultural production in every corner of its land. More specifically, when it comes to wine, the landscape is as varied and fascinating as its natural scenery, which descends from the Valtellina Pre-Alps down to the Po and the Oltrepò, passing by the great lakes.
The great wines of Lombardy between sparkling wines and still reds, whites and rosés
With as many as 34 award-winning wines and a fascinating array of rare wines (to which a section of the guide has been dedicated for the second year running), Lombardy confirms itself among the leading regions also in the wine sector.
Whether it be major, well-established companies recognised on the international market for years, or prestigious emerging producers born from the work of small winegrowers, it matters little: from refined late harvests to the great reds of Valtellina made from Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo, to the delicate fragrances of Lugana; from the classic cuvées of Franciacorta and Oltrepò of extraordinary finesse to characterful whites, not forgetting some of the most fascinating rosé wines in the world where Valtènesi excels (last year we awarded a Valtènesi wine as Rosé of the Year), as well as small gems such as Botticino and Valcamonica, which is now beginning to make a name for itself. Here, the enthusiast will find fulfilment in every style and type.
We write these lines at a moment of rare beauty, as, from the bow of the ship Puglia, nestled in the Vittoriale degli Italiani, we contemplate Lake Garda lit up by the morning sun, with a glass of Valtènesi in our hands, born precisely from the vineyard planted here in honour of the Vate. We are told that the 2025 vintage has been an excellent one. We are sure that Lombardy’s winegrowers will continue to enchant us for many years to come. And if the Comandante chose this land among the many beautiful corners of Italy, there must have been a reason...
Cheers to you all and… happy tastings!
