Sardinian Tre Bicchieri 2024

Sardinia’s Tre Bicchieri 2024. A region of variety

Sardinian wine Wine is in a good shape, the wines are good, very good, there is no shortage of Tre Bicchieri, just as there is no shortage of (many) wines that made it to the final tasting and Due Bicchieri whites and reds that are very often the great bottles of everyday drinking. An absolute record for the number of labels that make it to the top step of the podium, as many as 17, photographing the wholesomeness of a particular, variegated and multifaceted region that can enjoy wines that are born just a stone's throw from the sea, as well as bottles that are the result of mountain viticulture, with vineyards located over 700 meters. A diversity that also adds up to the many traditional varieties, cannonau in primis, one of the most fascinating grape varieties in the Mediterranean, capable (potentially) of bringing to the table among the most elegant, complex and contemporary wines of recent years.

Sardinia’s Tre Bicchieri 2024. About Cannonau

We will never tire of reiterating the importance of a total revision of the Denomination, which is still bound to an obsolete specification that sees the entire region counting the single grape variety (it also happens for Vermentino, Monica and Moscato) regardless of whether the grapes come from sandy, limestone or granite soils, whether they are from the plains or high hills. To be fair, there are some sub-areas, but we are far from having DOCs that properly enhance a territory, that are the result of agronomic and viticultural reasoning and studies. In all this it certainly does not help the work of the Consorzi, which seem to us to be more bureaucratic apparatuses than real organizations aimed at defending, enhancing, and promoting the different appellations: many regions of Italy have taken the right path, the examples to be taken overseas are plenty.

Tre Bicchieri 2024 della Sardegna. News and confirmation

Returning to the wines, in addition to Cannonau, Mandrolisai (this is a true Doc linked to the territory) is increasingly appreciated, a wonderful area, rich in old vines, cultivated with the alberello system, but above all rich in very good winemakers that we would like to enhance more and more. Confirmations then come from reds fruit of bovale or carignano. Regarding whites, at the top is Vermentino, both those produced in Gallura and those from other areas, especially in the south. Last but not least, a novelty that comes from Cagliari. Conquering the Three Glasses is Bessiu, a dry Nasco of undoubted value that once again underscores the island's ampelographic richness.
