The road to the estate winds its way through olive groves and hills in the heart of Umbria. All around, there is nothing but well-kept countryside and a soft light that changes colour in the final hours of the day. The wine resort belonging to the Roccafiore estate has a modern and elegant appearance, blending seamlessly into the hilly Umbrian landscape, with carefully curated spaces and a relaxing atmosphere.
The welcome is warm yet discreet: a smile, a hand pointing the way to your room, a suggestion of where to sit to enjoy the sunset. The spaces are refined without being cold. Every detail – the natural light, the linen curtains, the scent of wood – speaks of an attention to detail.
Waking up among the vineyards
Many of the rooms overlook the vineyards and hills. Some have terraces, others have large windows framing the landscape: a spectacular wake-up is guaranteed, along with a rich breakfast, served in the dining room with a view, or in the garden when the weather allows. Homemade cakes, jams, honey from Roccafiore’s own bees, fragrant bread and Umbrian cheeses.
The olive groves and vineyards surrounding the resort are inviting places to spend time walking, but one can also opt for total relaxation by reading by the pool, or indulging in the small spa created in a stone building. Just a few minutes away, Todi awaits with its quiet squares and shaded alleyways.
Umbria on the plate
Within the estate, Roccafiore’s restaurant is a natural extension of the overall experience: a cuisine that speaks of Umbrian tradition, but with a contemporary accent. The chef offers seasonal dishes born from local ingredients, some grown or produced directly on the estate. Homemade pasta, guinea fowl or pigeon, vegetables from the garden – all become the stars of tasty, well-executed recipes.
The menu changes with the seasons, and the dishes pair beautifully with the wines from the cellar, which feature prominently on a carefully curated wine list. The setting is refined and understated, with large windows overlooking the vineyards.
A winery immersed in the landscape
Roccafiore is also a place where wines with a strong identity are produced. The vineyards cover about 15 hectares on the hills facing Todi, surrounded by woods, olive trees and meadows. Organic methods are used, with absolute respect for the vine’s natural cycle.
The cellar is modern, but its steel and glass structure is perfectly integrated into the landscape. The grape varieties are those typical of the area: Grechetto, Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Montepulciano, as well as international varieties such as Merlot and Chardonnay.
Fior fiore: Grechetto according to Roccafiore
Among the labels, Fior fiore stands out – a pure Grechetto that elegantly expresses the white soul of this grape. It undergoes a slow fermentation in steel and is aged on the lees for several months. The aroma is floral, with hints of white flowers, ripe pear and fresh almond. On the palate, it is vibrant, fresh yet structured, with a sapidity that invites another sip. It is a wine that manages to be both straightforward and complex, everyday yet memorable, and with notable ageing potential.
