An application has been filed with the UK Patent Office. So after vodka, comes the wine label featuring the logo designed by the late frontman Freddie Mercury

It is not their first time in the world of beverages, but it could be their first venture into the wine sector. Queen, the historic English rock band, today made up of guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, filed in August (through the company Queen Productions Ltd) an application with the UK Patent Office to register the “Queen” trademark in the wine sector. The news, reported by international newspapers, could be the prelude to the launch of one or more labels from what is considered one of the most important musical groups of all time.

The historic logo created by Freddie Mercury

After Killer Queen vodka, launched in 2014 on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the famous single sung by the late frontman Freddie Mercury, a great vodka enthusiast, this bureaucratic step will most likely pave the way for the band’s future entry into wine, with their many fans still spread across the globe. There is no further information on who will produce the wine, from which region it will come or to which category the product will belong, but the label will certainly feature the band’s logo, designed by Freddie Mercury himself, which includes the well-known phoenix rising above a crown and the crest with the zodiac signs of the four historic members (John Deacon, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury).

Artists’ passion for wine

The group, which after Mercury’s death formed a partnership with the talented American vocalist Adam Lambert, performing live concerts all over the world, now joins the long list of musical artists who have chosen to invest in the wine sector: from Sting to Kylie Minogue, from Dave Matthews to Japanese rockstar Yoshiki, to Pink and Mary J. Blige, to name just a few.
