Do you have a favourite roastery? Do you know a small artisan workshop that roasts exceptional coffee near your home? Have you discovered a roaster who selects only the finest quality coffees and pays extreme attention to every detail of the process? Now’s the time to let us know. The Gambero Rosso editorial team, along with curators Andrej Godina and Mauro Illiano, is working on the new edition of the Guide to Italy’s Cafés and Coffee Roasters, and this year we want it to be even more participatory. For this reason, we’re launching an initiative open to all readers, enthusiasts, baristas, home brewers and coffee lovers: tell us about your favourite roasteries!

The world of Italian coffee roasting is full of many often little-known businesses: there are nearly a thousand companies spread across the entire country, each with a beautiful and compelling story to tell. Alongside the most well-known brands, there is a network of small artisanal producers, often family-run and active for generations, who passionately select green coffees from around the world and roast them with great skill. These are businesses that hold valuable expertise and traditions, deserving of being shared, celebrated and reviewed.

Whether it’s your city’s historic roastery, a micro roaster you discovered while travelling, or the brand you choose every day to make your coffee at home – with a moka, a Neapolitan pot, or an espresso machine – your recommendation can make a difference.

How to take part

To recommend your favourite roastery, it’s simple: write to the Gambero Rosso editorial team including the name of the roastery, its address, the reason why you believe it deserves a mention (even just a few lines!), your favourite product or blend, and any useful links or contact information. You can send your suggestions via email to: [email protected], or comment directly under our dedicated posts on our official social media channels.

Why are we doing this?

Italy is full of passionate, skilled businesses working to provide high-quality coffee, but many of them are still relatively unknown. The Guide to Italy’s Cafés and Coffee Roasters was created precisely to highlight and promote these local gems, from North to South, rewarding those who select the finest beans and roast them to perfection, and those committed to offering more sustainable and socially responsible coffee. With your help, we can build an ever more complete and authentic map of Italy’s rich coffee heritage.

Write to us and your favourite coffee could be featured in the guide!
