The super ice cream parlour you don’t expect in the historic centre of a seaside village

It’s called Biancamenta, it is located on the main promenade street in Porto Recanati and produces ice creams, granitas and ice lollies that bring flavour and naturalness together

If you find yourself in Porto Recanati, you have at least two good reasons to enjoy your free time. The first: you are in one of the most elegant and lively seaside villages of the Marche region, colourful, joyful, enhanced by pedestrianised streets and adorned with Liberty-style houses. The second: you have the chance to taste one of the best Italian ice creams, that of Biancamenta, an ice cream parlour located on Corso Matteotti, the main promenade street in the historic centre, just behind the seafront. In the space of 12 years – it opened its doors in 2013 – it has earned a well-deserved reputation for the goodness and naturalness of its frozen creations.

An ice cream parlour born from the desire to live together

The owners are Antonio Russo and Serena Corbo, partners in life and in work, he from Basilicata with a degree in Economics, she from the Marche region, a criminologist. “We met at the University of Forlì,” says Antonio, “after graduating we started working in the fields of our studies, I in Imola, she in Faenza and then in Rimini.” So they thought of a work project that would allow them to live together. “My grandparents had a pastry shop in Basilicata and made ice cream, and before University I used to run some venues – Antonio continues – Serena is a real ice cream enthusiast.”

And then, their shared, instinctive focus on natural products, functional and healthy foods. That’s how Biancamenta and its frozen creations were born, always fresh, made artisanally with carefully selected raw materials, some PDO, PGI and Slow Food Presidia, with attention to the seasons.

One hundred flavours in rotation

From March to September you’ll find 24 tubs with classic and innovative flavours that change weekly, ranging from rich creamy gelati to fresh water-based plant flavours, for a total of 100 options in rotation. There are also the classic granitas (including pistachio, and raspberry with wild strawberries), fun ice lollies on sticks (9 flavours) and the low-calorie “soft yoghurt”, low-fat yoghurt sweetened with fructose.

Among the creams, always excellent are Sorrento walnut and Cilento fig, salted caramel from Cervia, mascarpone zabaglione and cocoa shortcrust, Sicilian pistachio, citrus cream, robiola with blueberries and pistachio crumble, zuppa inglese “with gluten-free sponge cake that we make ourselves, soaked in the Alchermes from Santa Maria Novella and filled with ganache cream made with cocoa mass, this year from Cameroon,” Antonio specifies. Sorbets are not to be missed; a few suggestions: amarena cherry from Cantiano, grape must from uva fragola with anise seeds, bitter dark chocolate.

The new flavours of summer 2025

There is never any lack of creativity and research in the flavours created by our ice cream makers, both in the choice of ingredients and in the pairings. Among the new 2025 proposals is buffalo ricotta from Campania with Senise pepper cream, “a tribute to my homeland” smiles Antonio. Among the latest vegan creations: guava, the sweet-and-sour tropical fruit, and dragon fruit (or pitaya), a Central American fruit with an intensely pink scaly skin, rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, which reflects the health-conscious vocation of the ice cream parlour. Also worth trying is the creamy spiced lupin coffee, “with toasted lupin rounded off with a mix of spices.”
From this year there are also lactose-free flavours, always two in rotation: stracciatella, vanilla, mascarpone, cheesecake. An ice cream that is delicious and truly for all tastes and dietary needs.
