“Made in Italy”: the strength and potential of italian food products in the world

Over the last decade, the export of Italian agri-food products has grown by over 60%, reaching more than €44.5 billion. The sector also managed to get through the annus horribilis caused by the pandemic (2020) with a further increase (+1,2%), while its closest European competitors (France and Germany) suffered a downturn with respect to 2019. Over the last decade, the export of Italian agri-food products has grown by over 60%, reaching more than €44.5 billion. The sector also managed to get through the annus horribilis caused by the pandemic (2020) with a further increase (+1,2%), while its closest European competitors (France and Germany) suffered a downturn with respect to 2019. Italy's reputation for quality food is unmatched in the world, as evidenced by the extent to which it's imitated and an increase in cross-border sales (a phenomenon bolstered every year by the addition of new markets). Poland, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and of course China are among the countries that import over €100 million in Italian agri-food products and that in the last decade have more than doubled their purchases. Where there's an increase in income and living standards, there's a growth in demand for food that's "Made in Italy". The potential for further growth in our exports is therefore enormous.
