Il Maritozzo Rosso

Edoardo Fraioli's project in Trastevere, started over 5 years ago, is undoubtedly bold. The classic, filled with cream or tiramisu, is always available, but the menu is rich in savory maritozzi, such as those with whipped cod, caponata, bologna mousse, and many others. In addition to the small Trastevere location, suitable for a quick stop and takeaway, Il Maritozzo Rosso has also been present in the Prati district (via P. Cavallini, 25) for a couple of years with a larger bistro-style venue.

Fiordiluna di Eugenio Morrone

The pozzetti counter includes a good variety of perfectly churned creams, such as Viterbo hazelnut, pistachio, vanilla, a perfectly balanced grandma's cream with lemon zest, or zabaglione, also in the coffee variant. The Sicilian Cannolo flavor is excellent – also the name of Morrone's historic gelateria (Piazza R. Malatesta, 16b), where renovations are underway.

Giuffrè Forno&Gelato

A more than century-old family history behind this beautiful gelateria on Viale Trastevere. Here, Alessandro Giuffrè directs both the pastry and the cold art. Unmissable is the creamy, intense, and persistent Zabaione Marsala flavor. The Sicilian pistachio and berries flavors also conquer, in sorbet version, intense on the palate. The place comes alive from the early hours of the morning, with the proposal of coffee and pastry (including Italian croissants, shortcrust pastries, dry biscuits, the signature Sanpietrini, classics like cream puffs and fruit tarts, specialty coffees, and hot chocolates). Another store is located in Viale dei Colli Portuensi, 596.

Otaleg!

Marco Radicioni has given the city a new location in the Monteverde neighborhood with a focus on specialty coffee and morning leavened products. Instead, the Trastevere venue remains a pure gelato shop, where among the evergreens, you find fior di latte, cream, and two types of pistachio, one creamier and saltier, the other with whole pieces. Fruit flavors, without milk, are unique masterpieces. In colder months, the proposal is more focused on creams and nuts, and there are more choices on chocolate, including 100% cocoa chocolate. The cream is whipped almost on the spot, and the cones are crunchy and tasty.

Giuseppe Solfrizzi was among the first to bring French pastry to the capital. The morning starts with French brioches with ample and perfect layers for both the croissant and the pain au chocolat. The savory proposal is also beautiful and no less delicious, with croissants and rolls filled with ham and cheese, croque madame and monsieur, and puff pastry pizzas. The rest of the pastry remains faithful to the French school with single portions and high-quality cakes such as tatin, Montblanc, an extraordinary millefeuille with vanilla cream; among the mignons, shortcrust tartlets, chocolate éclairs, and the inevitable macarons. A wide selection of bread with fragrant rustic baguettes but also loaves, grain bread, and much more. Another location in Via Piave, 8.

Antica Caciara Trasteverina

Over a century of life for this shop that, as the wordplay of the sign suggests, specializes in the sale of Italian dairy products, with attention to the artisanal dimension of production, in one of the districts of the Roman nightlife where confusion (the 'caciara,' precisely) never lacks. In addition, there are salami and specialty sales from the shelf (preserves, oils, pastes...). Friendly and helpful service.

Forme - Dispensa a Ripa

It is difficult to see quality shops born in historic centers: when it happens, we follow them with attention. This is the case with the new sign of Pasquale Borriello (for years in the Roscioli team), who has created a good little place to buy and enjoy specialties on-site. The environment is focused on a nice counter where high-profile hams, salami, and cheeses find a place - France has ample space - of which Pasquale knows everything. On the shelves, true-flavored tomato preserves, wines, craft beers, oils, vinegars, cookies. Some tables and stools to sit down. Open from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

It is the small "vignerons" at the center of the research of this sign conducted with passion for natural productions. The offer ranges, with value, among bottles obtained from small artisans, family-run companies, or selected microbreweries (also foreign) with attention to sustainability as well as quality. Also, spirits, Champagne, and regional gastronomic specialties.
