The Brunello di Montalcino Consortium ready tocChoose a new President. Many young members on the board, but still few women

Six new entries on the board of the Tuscan DOCG, but the female quota stalls at 13%. A decision on who will succeed Fabrizio Bindocci expected by the end of May

One of the most attended assemblies was that of the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium, held on Wednesday 14 May. As many as 181 member wineries cast their vote, representing 85 percent of the consortium’s membership. Among the fifteen members of the newly elected board of directors for the 2025–2028 term – selected from no fewer than 37 candidates (a record number) – there are several new faces (6) but only a limited female representation (2 women, for a female quota of 13%. In the previous three-year term, there was only one), despite the presence of numerous female candidates on the list. Yet outgoing president Fabrizio Bindocci (who remains on the board but has stated he is not available for another term) had said just months ago to Gambero Rosso that it was time for a female-led turning point in the governance of the Tuscan DOCG.

Speculation on the New President

The Brunello board – which recently presented a new geo-viticultural map at Vinitaly – now includes several representatives from the younger generation (not necessarily new entries), one of whom may be selected as president for the upcoming term. Currently, the internal situation appears very dynamic, with no clear frontrunner emerging as a particularly strong candidate. In recent months, Giacomo Neri had been mentioned as a possible contender, but the entrepreneur has decided to make way for his son Giovanni, who was elected to the board.

A board with many young members

The newly appointed board of directors is expected to convene by the end of May to elect its top officers, including the new president, according to a note from the Consortium. Meanwhile, six of the fifteen board members are new. Among them are Alessandra Angelini (Altesino), Alessandro Brigidi (Casanuova delle Cerbaie), Andrea Cortonesi (Uccelliera), Andrea Costanti (Costanti), Fabio Ratto (Antinori), and Angelo Zannoni (La Fortuna).

The other elected members include Giacomo Bartolommei (Caprili), Alex Bianchini (Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona), Fabrizio Bindocci (Il Poggione), Maurizio Bogoni (Ruffino), Cristina Mariani-May (Banfi), Ermanno Morlacchetti (Marchesi Frescobaldi), Giovanni Neri (Casanova di Neri), Adriano Rubegni (Podere La Vigna), and the young Bernardino Sani (Argiano).
