VINEYARD | Since 1995, Le Chiuse has been offering on the market a Brunello di Montalcino Riserva made from the smallest bunches of Sangiovese Grosso harvested from the oldest property vineyard. This is a red designed to defy time. The eight hectares of vineyards are all located on the northern slope of Montalcino between Montosoli and Canalicchi, the difference of this super selection is above all in the value of patience. In fact, the Riserva does not come out 6 years after the harvest, as per regulations, but rather 10 years after the harvest. The simplest and most natural solution: giving time to a wine that needs time. The ageing in the bottle is extended for 5 years.
PERSONS | Until the 1990s, Fiorella Biondi Santi, owner of the Le Chiuse estate, rented the vineyards to her brother Franco, owner of Greppo. It was in that period that Simonetta Valiani, having inherited the estate from her mother Fiorella, with the help of husband Nicolò Magnelli and her son Lorenzo, decided to renovate the farm and the adjoining chapel, but above all to build a new underground cellar and therefore finally market a Brunello under the Le Chiuse label. A classic style enhanced by biocompatible protocols in the vineyard and minimal process in the cellar. Do pay attention to their Rosso di Montalcino, one of the best value for money in the region.
WINE | Like great wines, it opens slowly and solemnly to reveal its fragrances. Scents range from hints of soil and Mediterranean maquis, to violets and well-ripe small black fruits. The mouth is portentous due to a very dense and velvety tannic texture, with notes of roots and licorice together with vivid lashings of orange peel and rosemary. The mouth is full of flavour, articulation and depth. Very long finish: the underlying energy will not subside even in 20 years.
