Walter Mattoni is a prime example of wine craftsmanship in the Piceno area. A decorator by profession, he makes wine for passion and family tradition. His style is not exactly a model of formal perfection. Indeed, his are instinctive, visceral wines, obtained through spontaneous fermentation and a less interventionist approach, matured in barriques for varying lengths of time. We suggesting leaving them time to breathe in the glass, to adjust certain possible imbalances, or mitigate the effect of volatile acidity, or toastiness. The Rossomatò '19, a Grenache, proves exceptionally seductive for its fragrance, its graceful palate, its openly floral character, and its gentle tannins. The Arshura '20, 100% Montepulciano, is compact and full-bodied, with a clear streak of volatile acidity adding extra energy and depth. The Trebbien '21 is rustically complex, with its sapid, gratifying palate, slightly smoky on the finish.
