Review

If Valpolicella’s Classico zone represents the cradle of the appellation, eastern Valpolicella was assigned the task of redeveloping its style, highlighting the attributes of a warmer and drier territory, conditions that translate into a richer, pulpier profile of wine. The Trabucchi family is among the eastern part’s most prominent wineries, bolstered by organically-managed vineyards that stretch along the ridge separating the Illasi and Tramigna valleys, mostly red grapes enriched by the historical presence of Garganega. Trabucchi’s Amarone is only released after a long period of maturation in the cellar, and today we can taste the fruit of the warm 2012 vintage. A sweet, succulent jammy note soon gives way to crushed flowers and peppery whiffs. In the mouth it follows the same path, attacking with generous, close-knit tannins only to lengthen and unfold around supporting acidity.
