The Ciacci surname carries weight in Montalcino. In fact, Dino Ciacci was one of the 25 founders of the Brunello Consortium in 1966. Exactly thirty years later, Tiziano and Alessandra Ciacci, on land inherited from their grandfather Dino, established their winery in Mocali, located on the southwest side of Montalcino at 350 meters elevation. This location is especially well suited to the production of sangiovese due to its breezy summers and soils rich in pebbles, marl and alberese. They sell their wines under two brands: Mocali (the historic label), and the more recent Poggio Nardone. The delicious Brunello Riserva '17 expresses an intriguing bouquet that sees roses combine with citrus, bark, quinine, tobacco, and hot spices, as well as classic aromas of red and black berries; in the mouth, its fruit is well supported by vital, sleek tannins, making for a fresh, sapid drink of vibrant flavor.
