It was 1949 when Mario Mereu founded Perda Rubia. Today, after more than seventy years and spanning three generations, Mario's grandchildren continue the legacy of this quintessential Ogliastra producer. Here, cannonau reigns supreme, particularly from ancient, ungrafted vineyards. The estate spans 20 hectares, all cultivated organically, making for a range that's both sapid and forthright, true reflections of their terroir. Nestled among the rows, one can also find some vermentino. Beyond wine, the producer also specializes in olive oil and ancient grains. Two wines were submitted for tasting, with the Cannonau di Sardegna achieving peaks of excellent. The Perda Rubia '20 surprises with its elegance and finesse, starting with its aromas. Crunchy red fruit, primarily cherry and blueberry, are followed by a light spicy touch and broad sensations of underbrush. The palate is masterful: fresh, sapid, unfolding in a linear way, long and clean. The Vermentino Lanùra '22 is straightforward, but still very well crafted.
