Tenute del Garda was founded in Valtènesi, on the western shore of Lake Garda, out of a desire to promote the land and its invaluable resources. Led by Andrea Lorenzi, this consortium of Valtènesi producers is a blend of tradition and modernity, powered by the expertise of veteran growers and the enthusiasm and dynamism of young aficionados. A fledgling winery with vineyards in Polpenazze, Calvagese della Riviera, and Lonato del Garda, it predominantly grows groppello, though also marzemino, sangiovese, barbera, riesling, and chardonnay. The Valtènesi '22 is outstanding: it pours a gorgeous pale, pink color, anticipating an elegant and complex nose on wild berry and citrus hints, then aromatic herbs and Mediterranean scrub, all fading to delicate nuances of incense and spices. On the palate, it mesmerizes with its freshness and intensity, culminating in an intriguing, spicy finish marked by pepper and cardamom. The rich, varietal Riesling '19 also stood out.
