The history and name of the "Tenuta" go back to 1404, when the Roveglio family purchased the land from the San Salvatore monastery of Brescia. The real turning point, however, came at the end of the 19th century, when the Swiss Zweifel family took ownership. Today the estate is in the hands of the fourth generation, sisters Sara, Vanessa and Babettli Azzone, and managed by the energetic, passionate Paolo Fabiani. The roots of its vines sink deep into the classic white clays of Lugana. The Lugana Vendemmia Tardiva Filo di Arianna '20, from vines nearing 60 years old, was the wine that most impressed us this year. Its elegant golden-straw color is the prelude to a complex bouquet of overripe white fruit, apricot jam, Mediterranean scrub and flowers. On the palate, it's sapid, taut and creamy but not sweet, offering a new perspective on this fascinating varietal-terroir combination.
