While wandering among the estate's vineyards, you might encounter some unusual guardians: large boulders that have become a symbol of the winery, a testament to the hard work put in by Gemma and Paolo Baratta. Assisted by consultant Carlo Ferrini, they've labored since 1998 to realize their dream of making wine in a yet unexplored part of Maremma. Nestled beneath Monteti hill (the winery's namesake), just 15 km from the sea, we find vineyards of petit verdot, cab sauvignon, merlot, cab franc, and alicante bouschet, varietals that contribute to wines with a unique personal expression. Today, Gemma and Paolo's daughter Eva is at the helm alongside Javier Pedrazzini. It's reassuring to once again find the Monteti '19 at its peak. A blend of mostly petit verdot, with added parts cabernet franc and sauvignon, it shines on the nose with its fruity aromas of raspberry and strawberry, revitalized by vegetal hints and bay leaf. On the palate it opens soft, yet it's full, assertive, with impressive tension and a long finish. The Caburnio '19, a blend of cabernet sauvignon, alicante, and merlot, features notes of sage and rosemary and a fleshy body that unfolds at the back.
