At the heart of the Appia Antica lies an estate with a history filled with anecdotes and a legacy born from a passion for the land and wine. Alessandrojacopo took over the vineyards of his uncle, Prince Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi, who bravely planted cabernet sauvignon and merlot, malvasia di candia, and sémillon in the outskirts of Ciampino in the 1940s. 1998 brought about a sudden uprooting, but a revival in the 2000s saw the continued cultivation of the same red grapes alongside grechetto and viognier for the whites. The resulting range of wines showcases great character and personality. This year, we were surprised to see the Fiorano Rosso doing the honors, embodying a harmonious blend of elegance and dynamism. Plum, blueberry, tobacco, and hints of laurel and licorice come to life on the palate, where it's both flavorful and sapid. The Fiorano Bianco sees an iodine base balanced by floral and white fruit notes. The two Fioranellos continue to please: the Rosso delights with its hints of ribes and spices, while the succulent Bianco offers up nuances of pear and white flowers.
