Led by the sure hand of Luciano Begnoni, this Verona winery is one of the area’s historic producers, thanks to close collaborations with many local growers, especially in Fumane, San Pietro in Cariano and Marano. The range covers a bit of each of Verona’s appellations, but Valpolicella constitutes the core of the production, all the more so after a major acquisition in the eastern part of the territory. Theirs are wines that have always favored tension over opulence. We found two Amarones fully convincing, the Riserva ’12 and the Classico ’16. The first features complexity and deep aromas on the nose, with fruit surrounded by balsamic and mineral notes, sensations that anticipate a rich palate governed by close-knit, dense tannins. The second is youthful, fresh on the nose, delineated by a crisp, juicy fruit, lengthening in the mouth with decision and finesse.
