Francesca and Marco Sartori lead one of eastern Valpolicella’s loveliest wineries, about 15 hectares spread over two main vineyards, one that extends for over 10 hectares between 200-250 meters elevation (and dedicated to Valpolicella’s historical grapes), the other just over a hectare at 100 meters elevation (and dedicated to Garganega). Great attention is paid to vineyard management and to their work in the cellar, making for a limited range dedicated solely to the territory’s traditional wines. 2016, an outstanding year, brought with it great aromatic expressiveness, which the Amarone exhibits with clarity and depth. Super-ripe cherry is crossed by spicy whiffs and notes of thyme. In the mouth, its power is rigorously managed by acidity and tannins, making for an energetic drink with excellent aging potential. The Valpolicella Superiore of the same vintage expresses greater overall integrity and aromatic freshness, while a progressively developing palate reveals sapidity, tension.
