Giuseppe Marrano's winery, which turned twenty this year, was established in 2003 when he decided to plant a vineyard about 10 kilometers from the Margherita di Savoia salt flats. The maritime influence on these lands is decidedly significant. Mainly indigenous varietals are cultivated, like nero di Troia, susumaniello, and primitivo, resulting in a modern range that exudes a distinct Mediterranean character, with a focus on fruit richness and aromatic clarity. This year, Podere 29 put in an impressive overall performance. Among others, our favorites include the Duna Susumaniello '21, which emanates aromas of cherry and marjoram and offers a fruit-rich, focused, and juicy palate; the Avia Pervia Primitivo '21 plays on notes of dark fruits and undergrowth, full bodied and persistent; and the Unio '22, a blend of nero di Troia and primitivo with hints of red fruits, black olives, and Mediterranean scruba long, fresh, vigorous drink.
