Perusini, recognized in 1986 by Luigi Veronelli as one of Italy's 50 historic winemakers, serves as a regional beacon. At the end of the 19th century, as French wines were in vogue, Giacomo Perusini started selecting a number of native grape varieties. He is still credited with having revived picolit, a regional enological jewel that found its ideal habitat on Rocca Bernarda. Teresa Perusini, the property's current owner, has managed to maintain the family's legacy while staying committed to preserving biodiversity. This year, the lineup presented isn't particularly vast but certainly diverse. The Rosso Zenta '18, a blend of equal parts merlot and cabernet sauvignon, calls up plum jam and licorice root; on the palate, it's striking. The sparkling Blanc de Noir Pas Dosé Metodo Classico excels with its silky bubbles and the freshness of its palate, while the Picolit '18 pays homage to the varietal.
