Perticaia

Description

Symbolizing this eminent Umbrian winery is the "perticaia," the archaic term for plow. Situated in Casale di Montefalco, Guido Guardigli took a gamble on this subzone, laying the foundation for the winery that he would later hand over to the Becca family. In addition to sagrantino, they grow sangiovese and colorino for their reds and trebbiano spoletino and grechetto for their whites. A thriving winery undergoing a fascinating period of stylistic evolution, Perticaia warrants close observation. The entire range presented exhibited an excellent overall level of quality, starting with two Montefalco Rossos. In the absence of sagrantino, these two sangiovese-based wines stand out for their pleasantness, balance, and depth. The 2019 is quite elegant—young, light, all in on aromas of red fruit. It's echoed by the Riserva 2018, a denser wine, especially in its tannic texture, but still plump and harmonious. The Rosato proves pleasant and quite well crafted. Among the whites, we appreciated the Del Posto a trebbiano spoletino with intriguing sapidity.
