Pala

Description

Mario Pala is a renowned vintner and the patriarch of a true wine family, engaged in viticulture for decades, but always keeping up with the times. The estate now encompasses almost 100 hectares of vineyards, stretching from Serdiana to Oristanese. Primarily cannonau, vermentino, and nuragus are cultivated, however, the plots also extend to Terralba, where ungrafted bovale is grown in sandy soils. In total, the estate hosts grapes from eight different plots. The range of wines produced is vast, all emphasizing quality — from basic versions to select vintages, all characterized by a sapid vein that lightens the palate and lends elegance. Their range is as broad as it is outstanding, starting with their everyday drinkers (a special mention goes to the Silenzi Bianco) and extending to their premium versions, including reserves and now-iconic wines. Three made it to the finals, two reds and one white. The Essentija (a Bovale) is produced from historic terralbese vineyards. It's close-knit, dense, yet remarkably fresh and drinkable. Then come the true prized-ponies: the Stellato, a bottles that's wondrous in its sapidity, with a brackish touch and floral hints; and the Cannonau Riserva, a pervasive wine, with mature tannins, yet managing to be elegant and very deep.
