Review

Producers operating in the plains that stretch along the Adriatic coast, in the provinces of Venice, Treviso and Pordenone, have rarely focused on highlighting the attributes of the territory, turning instead to simple, drinkable wines. Ornella Molon, on the other hand, has managed to do it justice, with a range that hasn’t succumbed to the invasion of the Glera but kept close to its origins, resulting in a portfolio in which Bordeaux varieties represent the core of production. Beside her are Giancarlo Traverso and their children Stefano, Loris and Alex. The Bianco di Ornella Passito ’17 is a blend based on Verduzzo, harvested when overripe, with small additions of Sauvignon and Traminer that are dried at length. The result is a sweet wine characterized by deep aromas, with notes of apricot meeting candied citrus and dried flowers. In the mouth, its sweetness is perfectly governed by sapidity. The Vite Bianca ’19, a monovarietal Chardonnay, is marked by great gustatory harmony.
