The Nicolis family’s winery is situated on the plains that form the Fumane valley floor, a large property on soil of alluvial origins that’s also rich in gravel. The estate vineyards span many hectares across several different tracts of land, allowing Giuseppe, who oversees production, to dedicate the most suitable grapes to each wine. The producer’s style is faithful to tradition, drawing on all the territory’s historical typologies, interpreted here with aromatic complexity and breadth of flavor. Only the bare minimum was presented this year, with an excellent Recioto ’17 that held the winery’s flag high. On the nose vibrant hints of Morello cherry and pepper emerge, complemented by hints of undergrowth and rain-soaked earth. In the mouth its sweetness is never exaggerated and the wine unfolds gracefully, perfectly supported by acidity. The Valpolicella ’19, on the other hand, is all about freshness and dynamism.
