About ten vineyards, scattered across Langhe, Monferrato, Nizza, and Astigiano, belong to one of the most influential wineries of Piedmont's recent half-century. It all began in the 1950s with founder Michele, who gradually handed over the reins to sons Alberto and Stefano. However, the entire Chiarlo family remains deeply involved in the winery's operations. Some of their notable crus span various appellations: La Court for Nizza, Cerequio and Cannubi for Barolo, Asili and Faset for Barbaresco, and Rovereto for Gavi. Among the numerous exceptional wines presented this year, the Nizza Cipressi '21 caught our attention most. It shines for its freshness, immediately expressive fruit, and ease of drinking, all paired with an uncommon complexity and energy. The Nizza La Court Riserva '20 yields tones of ripe black fruits and Mediterranean scrub, unfolding on a lengthy and sapid palate. The Barolo Cerequio '19 is elegant, rich in fruit, with finely honed tannins. The Riserva '16 stands out with its balsamic notes, progressively unwinding tannins, and a long finish.
