Maugeri

Description

Renato Maugeri's winery brings exciting developments. Alongside his daughters Carla, Michela, and Paola, in fewer than five years he has established one of the most intriguing producers on Etna's southern slope. This year presents two innovations: a monovarietal Catarratto (again from the Frontebosco vineyard) that ages for at least a year, and another Etna Bianco Superiore, from an east-facing vineyard in the Praino district (also in Milo) boasting sea views. Exemplary quality across the entire range presented this year. In the end the Etna Superiore Contrada Volpare Frontebosco '22 slightly edged out the rest, due to its propensity to age gracefully. The wine boasts refined hints of lily of the valley and magnolia, complemented by inflections of apricot, citrus, and plum, all enriched by a smoky salt-mineral note. The result is a sapid and juicy wine that delights and refreshes the palate.
