Review

The relationship between the Brunelli family and Valpolicella began many generations ago, right in the Corte Cariano, which still today represents their production headquarters. What was once a sharecropping business, where wine was only marginal, has slowly transformed into the producer we know today. Alberto has taken over the reins from his father, Luigi, but the latter never fails to make his experience felt, whether it’s in the management of the vineyards or in the cellar. Made with grapes from the splendid vineyards of San Pietro in Cariano (at 350 meters elevation), the Amarone Campo Inferi Riserva ’15 unfolds little by little, with aromas of super-ripe fruit followed by notes of crushed flowers and finally a deep nuance of undergrowth and rain-soaked earth. In the mouth it’s full, powerful but, compared to previous versions, it moves with greater elegance, supported by sapidity and by resolved, delicate tannins. The immediately-expressive Valpolicella Superiore ’19 plays on the fleshiness of fruit.
