Karl Egger's winery, which first acquired land in Albinia in 1978, has since become a reassuring presence in the diverse Maremma wine scene. Adding further prominence to its success are pioneering production choices, such as cultivating its vineyards organically since 1980, as well as maintaining a consistent production philosophy that has always favored natural choices, without unnecessary interventions. The result is a range of wines characterized by their immediate pleasantness and consistent quality. The Morellino di Scansano 22 sees vibrant fruity, spicy, and balsamic aromas refreshed by hints of juniper on the finish, but finds its strength in the mouth, where it's sweet, succulent and well-sustained in its progression of flavor, nor devoid of sapidity. The Vermentino 22 proves pleasantly drinkable, with aromas of lime flowers meeting aromatic herbs and peach, all accompanied by slightly vegetal accentsa well-focused drink and generally crisp on the palate.
