Looking at a map of Soave, Elena, Pietro and Sisto Tessari’s winery appears to be set in an almost secluded position on the eastern side of the Classico zone. The project, on the other hand, has played a more than central role in the development of the white Scaligera appellation, thanks to vineyards that extend for more than 40 hectares (for decades under organic management) and an interpretative force that has kept Garganega front and center. Wines of great precision and finesse are accompanied by a small but noteworthy selection of reds. The grapes for the Monte Stelle, a 2020 Soave, come from old pergola vineyards on a high hill. The wine impressed for its fresh and elegant aromatic expression in which flowers and white fruit take center stage. A long stay on the fine lees (in stainless steel drums) makes for fullness and sapidity on the palate, without sacrificing momentum and gustatory suppleness. The Fontègo ’20 is also quite good, playing more on the pleasantness of fruit and a gratifying gustatory progression.
