San Lorenzello is a small village at the foot of the Matese Massif. Here, for 4 generations, the Fappiano family has been producing wine, but it was only a few years ago that Mario, after earning a degree in Economics and now leading the winery that bears his name, decided to take it seriously. The estate, about 12 hectares, mainly hosts traditional Sannio varieties: aglianico, piedirosso, barbera (or camaiola), fiano, and, of course, falanghina. This was our first time tasting Mario's wines, and we were immediately pleasantly surprised. The entire range impressed, especially the Falanghina '22. Quite golden in color, it opens on tones of dried aromatic herbs and spices, citron peel, and a slight mineral and iodized touch. On the palate, it shows nice fullness and flavor, with a lively saline trail that extends through a finish of aromatic herbs. Two fun and delicious reds were proposed, the floral Barbera '21 and the peppery Piedirosso '21. The clear, plump, firm Fiano '22 also performed well.
