In the heartland of aglianico del Vulture, spanning the municipalities of Barile, Ripacandida, and Maschito, lies the farm of Donato d'Angelo and his wife Filomena Ruppi. Managed with their daughters Emiliana, an enologist, and Erminia, an economics graduate, the winery primarily cultivates aglianico, which is supplemented by small plots of cabernet sauvignon and fiano. Donato, a renowned enologist, consistently showcases his adept interpretation of aglianico, producing wines with a direct and vivid style. This year the Calice once again delivers, this time with the 2021. It's an Aglianico of composed classicism, where finesse is its signature. A beautiful ruby color is the prelued to a clear and complex nose, with hints of red fruits meeting spices and scrubland. On the palate, it impresses with its balance, a harmonious structure, and a fresh acidic vein, with fine tannins giving way to a captivating finish.
