Decugnano dei Barbi

Description

Today, Decugnano dei Barbi is recognized as a cornerstone of Orvieto's wine industry. The Barbi family began its operations in 1983, naming the estate after an ancient territory renowned for its excellent soils (records testify to the fact as far back as 1212). The vineyards flourish in sandy, clay-rich soils of marine origin, endowing the wines, some of which are aged in ancient tuff caves, with a mineral, brackish character, great expressiveness and depth. Once again, the range presented surprises, even though the Pourriture Noble (awarded last year's Sweet Wine of the Year) wasn't submitted. It's honored by a fantastic Mare Antico, a lovely example of a highly characterful Orvieto Classico. Finesse and aromatic complexity anticipate a sapid, long, clean, vibrant palate. Also worth mentioning are the two Metodo Classicos (also produced on the estate). Finally, the AD1212 proves to be a full-bodied but balanced blend of sangiovese, montepulciano, and syrah.
