Guglielmo and Enzo Cambria established Cottanera in the 1990s, prioritizing viticulture on the family estate and creating their own wines. After initially focusing on international grapes, they shifted their attention to Etna's native varietals and the unique characteristics and microclimates that define this volcanic terroir, drawing on their estate crus Calderara, Diciassettesalme, Feudo di Mezzo, and Zottorinoto. The Riserva 19 from the cru Zottorinoto triumphs once again: elegant and complex fruity notes of peach, red wild fruits and aromatic herbs merge with subtle balsamic and mineral inflections; it's taut on the palate, with a close-knit and silky tannic texture, and a long, distinct persistence. The Etna Bianco 22 also makes it to the final round, yielding vibrant aromas of grapefruit, mint, and fresh oregano, sensations that return on the palate along with highly pleasant fruit. The Etna Bianco Calderara 21 stands out with its clear whiffs of Mediterranean scrub.
