Mattia, Stefano and Andrea Piccoli lead the winery they inherited from their father, Gianni, who passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve. The confident team bring the same skill and vision that has guided Corte Gardoni since its founding in the 1970s: respect for the territory, for its grapes and for an idea of elegant wine that goes beyond fashion. The vineyards (mostly traditional cultivars) are situated on the morainal hills that extend south of Lake Garda. The Bardolino Pràdicà ’19 pours a lovely, light ruby red, anticipating a whirlwind of aromas where cherry meets notes of pepper and wild rose. In the mouth it’s light and racy, supported by marked sapidity and Corvina’s trademark acid thrust. Among the whites we appreciated the fine aromas of the Mael ’19, a Custoza that plays on minimalism and wins over the palate with its finesse and suppleness.
