Review

Isabella Collalto de Croÿ’s winery, one of upper Treviso’s historic producers, operates on a sizeable estate on the hills leading to the Prealps, a stone’s throw from Conegliano Veneto. In their historic Susegana cellars they craft a range that’s increasingly focused on Prosecco, even if there’s a limited line dedicated to still wines, with an important role played by the crossbreeds created by Professor Manzoni in the first half of the 20th century. After a few years of absence, the Cabernet Torrai is back in our tastings. A Riserva ’16, it features a complex, multi-layered aromatic profile where fruit is accompanied by notes of medicinal herbs and spices. In the mouth it’s marked by sapidity, balance and a nice suppleness. The Ponte Rosso ’20, a Prosecco Superiore, is even more convincing, expressing clear and crunchy white-fleshed fruit sensations refreshed by flowery notes. The palate is crisp, sapid and supported by a pronounced acidity.
