In 1984, Sandro Chia, a leader of the "transavanguardia" movement and one of Italy's most celebrated contemporary artists, purchased the ancient Romitorio. His idea was to restore it so as to establish a studio where he could work in the serenity of the Tuscan countryside. Initially, winemaking was almost a hobby, but his fervent nature transformed it into a comprehensive project, leading him to plant new vineyards and purchase an estate in Maremma. Now, the artist's son Filippo manages the winery. His work is noteworthy, his wines exceptionally elegant and, above all, precise in their varietal expression. The Brunello Filo di Seta '18 is delicious, unveiling an elegant bouquet of red and black berries, eucalyptus hues, undergrowth, tobacco, and sweet spices, pointing to a well-calibrated use of wood. The palate is coherent, refined, well-balanced amidst expertly extracted tannins and alluring, fresh fruit, while a light sapid note refreshes and lengthens the finish.
