Review

Cantina Valpolicella Negrar was founded by 6 growers in August of 1933. Today the cooperative numbers more than 200 growers and the area cultivated extends for 700 hectares, mostly in the Classico zone, making for a veritable sea of vineyards that from the valley floor rise up the hills to elevations considered extreme for viticulture. For 30 years now, Daniele Accordini has headed their technical team. A connoisseur of the territory, its grapes and its traditions, he pursues a style marked by fruity richness. The interesting Collezione Pruviniano comprises three traditional wines from vineyards in the Marano Valley, with the Amarone ’17 standing out. The nose offers up clear, focused fruit of nice overall integrity, but it’s in the mouth that the wine reveals its class. Instead of playing on power and roundness, it lengthens on acidity, highlighting sapidity and suppleness. The Amarone Jago ’15, on the other hand, proves richer, more powerful and warmer.
